For there are several college students that need some help in order to continue their studies, there are college scholarship grants given to those who are in need or with special talent on a certain field.

There are 3 common types of scholarships grants awarded to college students and soon-to-be college students: athletic scholarship grant, academic scholarship grant, and departmental awards. Each has its criteria to consider before awarding the grant. Each also has a particular group of student to target.

Academic Scholarship Grant

This type of scholarship grant is awarded to students who achieve a qualified GPA or has achieved an exceptional academic performance before entering college. This grant is usually awarded to students who have received honors. It is sometimes awarded automatically upon entering college or university but most schools require application for academic scholarship grants.

Basically, the primary focus of schools giving academic scholarship is of course the academic aspect; however, some colleges and universities base the grant on either merit or need, or both.

Upon passing an academic scholarship grant, the student is required to maintain a ceiling grade. If not achieved after the end of the term, colleges and universities usually put the student on probationary status until the grades reached the prescribed level. If not achieved however, the academic scholarship grand may be terminated.

Athletic Scholarship Grant

If you are on the competitive edge, you get an athletic scholarship grant. However, this is highly sought after type of scholarship and there are many students applying for this.

An athlete of course wants to go through college for free using this type of scholarship. Some even dream to finish college as an athlete. And this dream is not far from the realizing. With good personal marketing and exceptional skill in any sport, you will be able to apply and be granted with this type of scholarship.

Departmental Awards

This type of scholarship grant aims to provide the student with the option to stay or take up his or her studies on a particular department. Usually, it is offered to exceptional students with desire to take other fields. The departmental awards are given so as not to keep the students in the department. Or, it is given to attract interested students to take study at a particular department.

You can inquire about this type of scholarship directly on the department of the school.

There are other college scholarship grants that are given to students but basically, these three are the ones given by the schools themselves.

Arriving at university or college will be daunting for everyone. For many it may mean living away from the parental home for the first time, which on it’s own may be daunting enough. You will most likely have a hundred questions and a hundred fears; what will it be like? Can I cope with the workload? Will I be able to fit in? It may help to know that everyone will be feeling similar, though some may hide it better than others.

Invariably the vast majority of freshers will be pleasantly surprised. The University or College will be populated by a broad variety of people, from many walks of life with a diverse range of outlooks and opinions. Look beyond the initial confines of your college, house or dorm, the establishment will have many more people who will share similar interests to yourself. Some of the tips we have received from other students:

1. Meet as many people as you can, introduce yourself, smile and be confident. Everyone is in the same boat whether he or she appears to be or not.

2. Be yourself. Real friends will want to know you for who you are, warts and all!

3. Keep your opinions about others to yourself until you know whom you can trust

4. Take your washing to the laundry. Don’t save it all up to take back home to mum at the hols. She really won’t want five minging black bags to see to.

5. Have a good time

6. Join a few societies at first week fairs. If you’re not sure it’s for you but are interested take note of an e-mail/ contact address to get more details later. Its sometimes hard to find the right contacts later, it’s a big place.

7. Phone home and let your family know you’re all right, (even if you don’t exactly feel it). They’re probably more worried than you are.

8. Everyone feels at least a little homesick at first, and worried or just on a down. Talk to new friends you feel you can trust, and maybe write/call friends at home.

9. You’re at Uni for a few years, make the most of it, it’s over before you know it. Then you’ll miss the freedom and long holidays.

10. Keep in touch with family and friends at home, e-mail is easiest.

11. Don’t hang round with one little group ignoring everyone else. You’ll miss out on the chance of making other good friends as well.

12. Seriously don’t be careless with your money – it is the little extras here and there that have a way of quickly draining your bank account!

13. Don’t let peer pressure turn you into a beer-monster; you don’t have to drink all the time. If friends have a problem with you ordering soft drinks when you want, they’re probably not the friends you need. Drinking soft drinks is easier on the pocket, not to mention healthier.

14. Beer sessions.. It’s a good idea to leave the beer until the weekend when you haven’t got to worry as much about getting it together the next day.

15. Don’t let everything get bottled up. Talk to somebody, family and friends or a student help line. Being away from home, especially for the first time can make you feel well lonely and lost. Talking about it usually puts everything into perspective.

16. Cooking. The curry house on the corner may do student specials. Take-away burgers may an easy option when you have a stack of work to do. But your money won’t see you through the term. It really will be like throwing it away. Try cooking. Get a few basics in, salt, pepper, gravy mix, (goes with everything). If you’re house sharing, perhaps chip in. Veg stews are pretty easy, gut-filling and cheap, especially if you go to the veg shop. You’ll find a good cookbook worth the investment too. Ask the bookshop for one for the catering students course! It’ll have everything step by step.

17. When you’re going out for the night. Take just as much as you need, or want to spend. It’s very easy to have a few more beers when you’ve already had a few.

18. Clubs and stuff, almost all charge a joining a fee or pay-as-you-go. They are excellent for meeting people, blowing off steam, getting invites, finding something to take your mind off your subjects for an hour or two. But they can have a scary impact on your pocket. Whilst you may want to try climbing, sky diving, hockey and archery, stick to a few you know you’ll like and will be able to keep up with. You won’t have time for all of them anyway.

19. Live your first year as best as you can, you’re only a fresher once.

20. The ”B” word .. When you have a fat student loan in your bank balance, the easiest thing to do is spend it, it’s just sitting there itching to be used. Don’t. (Or starve) There’s this word you’ll know very well by the time you leave University ”Budget”. Plan ahead so you don’t end up with too much debt. Sit down and work out what you’ve got coming in, what has to go out, rent etc. If there’s anything left over divide that by how many weeks until the next cheque clears. Then half that; you will need panic money some way down the line. Remember there’s always stuff you’ll need that you don’t put in the budget, stuff you just overlook – shampoo, photocopying, and toothpaste.

The same reason that people visit the gym on a regular basis, is probably the same reason you’re interested in raising your IQ. We just aren’t challenged enough physically or mentally. Setting aside time to work your mind out and organizing your various mental muscles can help you to be more creative, solve problems quicker and focus on the things you want.

Contrary to what most people believe, brainpower goes beyond inherited genes. Scientists have proven that intelligence is a combination of both genes and environment. When laboratory rats were given more toys to interact with, they ended up having much smarter rats than the ones that did not have any toys. Studies have also shown that you can grow more neurons with a stimulating environment.

The benefits of being mentally fit are very obvious. You’ll be able to enjoy accelerated learning. If you’re in high school, college or attend a university, you may find yourself having an easier time of your studies and your grade point average raising. You’ll also find yourself being able to think logically more often. You’ll be able to assemble a clear line of logic and reasoning that can help you make better decisions in life. Another benefit is that of increased creativity. Whether you’re into music, art, writing or any other form of art, training your mind can definitely open the flood gates of creativity in those areas as well.

In addition, your memory and focus will increase. Training with certain kinds of memory tools such as pegging and linking can help you uncover new ways to store information permanently and have an easier time of recalling things. Through meditation, your focus can improve greatly. You can start by meditating 10 or 15 minutes a day. Simply find a quiet place and sit or lay completely still, with eyes closed. Then, as much as possible, quiet your mind and focus on your breathing. If you’re not used to doing this, it may be extremely difficult. That’s ok. The more you do it, the easier it gets. As you stick with it, you’ll notice some very big improvements of being able to hold ideas and imagines in your mind much longer and stronger.

So how can you boost your IQ in less than 30 days? Here are the key secrets:

1. Write – when you write down your thoughts, it can be a great tool for you to reflect and make decisions. Some people use journals to write down their thoughts, others have simple notepads or notebooks. Simply writing what you think and feel can help you have a new perspective when you go back and read those words.

2. Meditate – as already stated, you can significantly boost your IQ through meditation. It may not seem logical, that you could boost your IQ by thinking about nothing at all, but it does help you bridge a connection from your conscious to your subconscious mind. And the subconscious stores every bit of data of our lives. Nothing is lost to the subconscious.

3. Be active – if you’re not already active, start a regular exercise routine. Having a healthy body also affects the mind.

4. Have Hobbies – have a regular routine of doing things you love to do, whether it’s fishing, bowling, bicycling, knitting, or reading a mystery novel. The more fun and passion you experience, the easier it will be to process and assimilate new information.

5. Read at least 15 minutes a day – Try to read at least 15 minutes a day. It may be hard to read if you’re pressed for time, but 15 minutes is very doable by anyone of this day and age.

6. Think – involve yourself in documentaries, books, magazines or board games that make you think. Actively challenge your current assumptions.

7. Study IQ puzzles – visit your local book store and buy yourself a couple of IQ puzzles or crossword puzzles. Make sure you get ones that have the answers in the back so that you can work out any mistakes. Go over them again and again. It keeps your mind sharp.

8. Play competitive games like chess. You can log on to the Internet and play with other players around the world. You can also play billiards.

9. Walk in someone else’s shoes – empathy goes along with IQ intelligence. By exploring someone else’s perspective of the world can help you to think through other people’s eyes. Although this is not a logical reasoning ability, it is an ability that can help you think out of the box when you’re stumped on a problem.

10. Create something on a regular basis – find something you can create, whether it’s writing an ebook, building a bird house, planting a flower, overhauling a car engine, or drawing a picture. Use your creative powers on a regular basis.

11. Conduct thought experiments – Ask yourself “what if” questions. Write them down and see how far you can take a certain question.

12. Break out of the routine – try to consciously break a routine, even if just for a short time. If for example you drive the same way to work every day, try a new route. If you sleep on the left side of the bed, sleep on the right side, or even the opposite direction.

13. Explore new cultures – seek different worldviews than your own. Meet people from other cultures and let them teach you about their food, language and traditions.

14. Learn outside of your usual interests – don’t stick to the same old things. If you like rock music, try listening to rap or jazz. If you’re into art or music, get into a programming language.

15. Use your brain more – Force yourself to use your brain more in everything that you do. In many cases its just having the intention to use your brain more that can actually give you surprising results. Logic, focus and creativity are a handful of mental muscles that you should be exercising on a regular basis.

These techniques can definitely help you boost your IQ, no matter who you are. If you’re looking to join a high IQ society, like MENSA, then are two ways to go about it.

The first is to submit your GRE scores. The other is to let MENSA send you a supervised test. In my opinion, if you haven’t completed your GRE yet, you may find it easier to take the GRE after having studied GRE test books. You can get them at any major book seller or http://Amazon.com. By implementing these IQ boosting strategies for the next 30 days, you can significantly increase your Intelligence Quotient.

Before you enter a college or university to get your online criminal justice degree there are certain things that you should know. These are:

1. Find out the difference between different levels of online degrees:

You can get online associate level degrees, bachelor level degrees, master level degrees and even PhDs. Depending on your existing level of educational achievement you have to make an appropriate choice as to what level of online degree you can go for or are eligible to get.

2. Find out the difference between different types of online degrees:

Online criminal justice degrees are available in many different majors or specialisations. Depending on your own inclinations and research about various career options you have to decide which type of online degree will be just right for you – which major, program or degree you should opt for. So find out about all the options available to you when it comes to online degrees in criminal justice.

3. Find out which online university or college is best for you:

There are hundreds of colleges and universities offering online degrees. But not all of them are equally good. Some are good, some are not-so-good and some are outright bad. Look at costs, time factor, course content, faculty, accreditation and transferability of credits, and all other possible factors that can impact your decision about which college or university is best for you. It is not easy to compare different colleges and universities and there are many dangers. Hence, the more thorough your research the better will be your choice.

4. Find out all you need to know about accreditation:

Almost all online colleges and universities offering online degrees boast of some accreditation or the other. But all accreditations are not the same. Accreditations by any of the eight regional accrediting bodies funded by the US Department of Education and authorised by the department to grant accreditations, are the most valuable and absolutely risk-free. Accreditations from other bodies are risky. Two states – Michigan and Oregon – have also put out negative lists as to which colleges and universities are not recognised or rather degrees from such colleges and universities are not recognised. The Michigan list also contains a list of accreditation bodies that are not recognised. Make it a point to find out whether the college or university you are thinking of entering is not in any of these two lists because then the degree that you earn will be worthless. In short, avoid colleges and universities known as diploma mills.

5. Find out about for-profit institutions such as ITT Tech:

For-profit institutions such as ITT Tech market their programs very aggressively. While such institutions may have a lot of good things going for them there are many bad points that these institutions do not care to advertise. Please research thoroughly all aspects before entering for-profit institutions such as ITT Tech.

6. Find out about for-profit universities such as the University of Phoenix:

The University of Phoenix is the unchallenged market leader in the for-profit education services industry. It is also the largest and the oldest university offering online degrees. It is also a very aggressive advertiser. Though it is a pioneer in online education and can boast of many innovations in the field of online education, not everything may be right about the University of Phoenix. Thoroughly check all the facts that they do not care to advertise and then make your choice – don’t just go by advertising or past reputation.

7. Find out the basics of an online criminal justice degree:

Find out about various careers, majors and specialisations. Find out about course curriculum, misconceptions about online degrees and all else that you need to know before going for an online criminal justice degree.

8. Find out about careers and salaries:

An online degree can open up many different types of careers. Find out which type of degrees will open up which type of careers as well as the possible or average salaries associated with each of these types of careers before deciding on any particular online degree in criminal justice.

9. Find out what all you will need to get an online criminal justice degree:

Find out what materials you will need, what kind of pre-requisites you must have, how difficult the program will be, what kind of syllabus you will face and so on before deciding on any particular online criminal justice program.

10. Find out what online criminal justice courses are like:

Find out the various differences and similarities between online and traditional courses. What kind of time will be required, what credentials will be required, what kind of homework will be required, what kind of classroom environment or teaching and learning environment you will have and so on before deciding on any particular online criminal justice program.

One of my favorite activities is browsing round book shops. Even in Prague and Rome, I wandered in to look at the books, unable to understand a word. I love the atmosphere and the air of scholarship. A lot of book shops have coffee areas now, where you are allowed to look at a book, whilst relaxing in a comfy chair drinking cappuccinos. My nearest book shop has a shiny, black piano on which young music students tinker jazz in the background.

They don’t just sell books these days. Good book shops have become part of the community. They have special evenings with authors giving readings and talks about their latest publication. I have been to a few of these and lined up to have my book signed. Meeting an author is always a thrill and it makes the book almost like a personal gift from the author. There are also reading groups and creative writing circles meeting in book shops.

Young children are not left out, and are invited in for story telling sessions. Book shops are nothing without a good children’s section, and a welcoming attitude younger readers. It goes a long way in encouraging children to read for pleasure.

One of my favorite haunts are dusty, old second hand book shops, particularly if the books are piled up high with no visible sign of organization. Sometimes, you want to chance upon a gem, like hunting in a treasure cave. An old man in a stained cardigan and wire rimmed glasses may amble through from the back room and enthusiastically congratulate you on your find.

Charities often run shops which specialize in book sales and I have found good authors there too. In amongst the pulp, romantic novellas and bodice ripping tomes, I have come across Joseph Conrad, DH Lawrence, and Tom Wolfe. The only thing that puzzles me is how people can throw away a book, to give to book shops in the first place. I have never managed to do it and consequently my bookshelves are overflowing. I seem to have a missing chromosome which allows you to throw books away.

I could really live in an oasis of literature and work my way steadily and alphabetically round the novels, poetry, travel books and art history. Book shops are a haven that the modern world can’t take away. They’re not bad as singles hangouts either. Consider the advantages. If you meet him or her in a certain department, you already know you have something in common. You can strike up a conversation, something like, Oh, I’ve just read that, it’s marvelous, or Tell me, can you recommend this poet? It won’t be long before you’re settling down to coffee and muffins for two. It wouldn’t be a good idea for me to work in book shops. I would be too easily distracted and be reading instead of selling.

One of the best gifts you can give your children is a love of reading. Children who begin to read at an early age tend to carry a love of reading straight through to adulthood. Children who love to read often do better in school due to the fact that reading any type of book will be easier for them. Textbooks may not be as much fun to read, but it will be easier for a child who loves to read to get through their assignments. The best way to get your child started is to buy books for children at an early age.

You can begin buying books for children earlier than you might think. There are picture books that children can handle as young as six months old. They may not even understand what it is, but it will give them a positive association with books. Many of these books for children are soft, have bright, stimulating colors, and can be chewed on safely.

As your children age, the books for children you buy will begin to involve words as well as pictures. One of my daughter’s first books was a picture book of other babies. Children are often fascinated with other children their own age. The book had very few words, but it helped her to understand that words tell a story, and the pictures in the books go with the story. When children reach age three or four, you can purchase more complicated books for children. They can have longer storylines, and they should encourage your child to ask questions. Rhyming stories are great, because they engage your child’s mind in learning and understanding patterns and sounds.

You can find books for children just about anywhere you buy books. Many bookstores have special sections just for books for children, and they often have extras like a play area, and they may also have story time. You can also find them at the library, and the library will have story time as well. These programs are geared towards getting your children to develop a love of books that will last a lifetime. It is one of the best gifts you can give them. You can also start a book-sharing program with some of your friends and family. If you are really ambitious, you can start one of these for your community. This will encourage people to share or donate books for children to the community, and will help lower income families give their children the gift of reading.

Accounting is tricky business, and not everyone has the mind for it. In order to get a degree in accounting, you have to spend a great deal of time in college learning the ins and outs of the profession. Like any profession, there are those who just don’t cut it. If you have a more creative mind, accounting may not be for you. I once took a few courses, and did some accounting for a small company. I found it was just not for me, and I stuck with writing to make a living.

If you aren’t a professional, but need to keep track of your own expenses, you can buy some accounting books and try to teach yourself the basics. The skills needed to take care of your home, and your home business might be something you can handle. Some people choose to buy ledger accounting books to keep track of expenses and income, while others opt for software.

Software has a huge advantage over regular accounting books. If you have a basic understanding of what you are doing, you can learn how to put your information into the program, and it will do most of the work for you. It can also generate reports to let you know how you are doing. You can get reports for expenses, profit, operating costs, and anything else you may need to know. Software such as Peachtree Accounting comes with customer support.

If you really want to do this, you should buy some textbooks first, and get a grip on the basics. Accounting books can be found online as well as in many major bookstores. You can find more complicated books if you wish to learn everything there is about accounting, or you can buy simpler guides that will teach you what you need to know without going into too much detail. This is great if you want to keep an eye on things, but then will hand everything over to an accountant or tax preparer at the end of the year.

If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on accounting books and programs, you can look at your local library for books. You may also want to look through eBay or your local classified ads for people selling used books and used software. If you still feel lost, call your local college. They may offer simple and basic accounting courses for those with a home or small business.

There are so many new books published these days that I find it extremely difficult to consistently make good reading choices. Even when I follow the recommendations of literary critics from major publications such as the New York Times or the Los Angeles Times, I often end up wasting time and money on novels that simply don’t appeal to me. That’s why I decided to start choosing my future titles from book club lists instead.

Book club lists are compilations of recommended works from various reading groups around the country. Reading groups tend to attract a wide variety of people, all with slightly different tastes when it comes to literature. So if a particular title makes it on to several book club lists, then I can be relatively sure that the work is worth purchasing and reading. Since I’ve been following the recommendations of book club lists, I’ve had much greater success with finding works that I’ve actually enjoyed reading.

Many book club lists are posted online and are freely accessible to all. Through trial and error, I’ve discovered which discussion groups stick to the genres that I like, so now I know exactly which websites to go to for new suggestions. I have also discovered that many public libraries (and library websites) post book club lists for their patrons. Sometimes these recommendations come from discussion groups that meet at the library, and sometimes they are more or less just the favorite works of different staff members. Either way, I’ve had a lot of success finding interesting novels through library book club lists.

Another benefit of selecting titles from book club lists is that I can often get a significant price break for doing so. Some of the reading groups I’ve come upon apparently have deals with publishers whereby members can purchase the selection of the month for a discount. This discount is even available to the general public when purchased directly through the reading group’s website or from a special link on the site. I’ve been able to buy current best-selling titles for 20 to 30 percent off the cover price when I use links found in online book club lists and I didn’t even have to become a member myself or commit to any contracts.

So if you’re looking for a better way to find great books to read, I suggest that you check out some book club lists. This is a very easy and convenient way to keep up with the latest literary successes.

Operating a used book store is a lot like owning a recycling center – not too glamorous until you take a look at the owner’s bank account.

This is an ideal “absentee-owner” type of business, or a small investment type business for someone to start while holding down a regular, full time job. The type of person “best-suited” to running a successful used book store is a man or woman who loves to read, has collected books over the years and enjoys associating with people of similar interests.

Start-up risks average high, with the average time period needed to become firmly established, about 3 years. After that “becoming established” stage however, you should be able to enjoy ownership of a business without extreme market fluctuations, plus an income close to $50,000 per year or more.

Ideally, a used book store will need a market population of at least 50,000 persons to support it. Try to locate your store in a “high traffic” area, as near as possible to a college or university campus. Something to bear in mind is the shopping habits of the average used book buyer: First, he is a browser. He notices your shop, drops in and begins looking around to see what kind of books you have available. If he spots something that really interests him, he’ll probably buy then and there. If not, and provided you’ve made him feel comfortable this first time in your store, he’ll be back-dropping in to browse whenever he’s in the area.

Shopping Malls are excellent locations for book stores. Locations near other or “new” books stores are also very good if the buyer doesn’t find what he wants in the “other” book stores, he’ll check your store. Grocery store shopping centers are generally poor locations for book stores of any kind.

It’s important that there be a lot of casual strollers in your location area, and that you encourage these people to drop in, and browse around.

If you want the entire front of your store to be a show window…take pains to arrange your window display in an uncluttered manner, showing the kinds of books you have. However, a window display is not really necessary…more important is a window for the passers-by to see into your store…At any rate, if you do go with a window display, keep it low-never more than 36 inches high leaving a lot of room for the people passing to see in your store, and notice the people browsing thru your books. We know of one successful operator who had members of his family, relatives and friends, purposely “browsing” thru his store, just to project that kind of image for the store.

Once you have your store location selected, paint the entire interior in a dark, warm color, such as mahogany. Install a lighter shade of indoor/outdoor carpet throughout. The lighting should be indirect, and somewhat subdued to give the store a warm feeling.

Locate your checkout counter parallel to one of the side walls…You don’t want it blocking or guarding the easy entry or exit from your store. You want your customers to feel comfortable just visiting your store. In other words, do everything you can to encourage the browser, because it’s proven time and time gain that the browsers are the book buyers. Allow the people to come and do generally as they please; to pick up thumb thru the books that interest them; to read them and “fall in love” with them.

These will be your real book buyers.

Your book shelves should run along each side wall, and across the back of the store. Don’t build them more than six feet high.

Partition these shelves into sections about four feet wide, and at the top of each section, place a sign indicating the general subject matter of the books to be found in that section.

Paper the walls of your store, from the top of your book shelves to the ceiling with colorful and descriptive travel posters, Broadway show billboards, concert posters and full color dust jackets from books that are perennially popular.

The next thing is to build or buy half shelves, tables and revolving racks for other or more books. The half shelves about 4 feet wide by 4 feet high and similar to book cases in your home should be located at right angles to your wall shelves, and in the rear of your store. The tables should be about 3 feet wide by 4 feet long, and about 30 inches high. These also should be located at right angles to your wall shelves, but closer to the front of your store. A revolving wire rack, to hold currently popular or specially featured books, and located at the front of your store, will be a special extra merchandising effort that’ll really pay off in sales of your books.

In locating your half shelves and tables down the middle of your store, stagger them one 3 feet from the wall shelves, the next one 6 feet out, then 4 feet and so on. This will allow people to be “seen” in your store; cut down on the appearance of a formal or military layout, and project a more casual atmosphere for browsing and this is precisely what you want. This kind of arrangement will cost you some space, but it will be worth it with increased traffic.

Another merchandising idea that works very well is a couple of revolving wire racks on wheels…These you push outside and position near the entrance to your store. You can feature popular paperbacks, and a few oversize hard cover books with bright, flashy colors in these racks.

Your store hours should match those of your neighbors…In fact, you cold “jump off to a quick start,” by opening a half hour earlier than your neighbors. Use his opening half hour to take care of paperwork, and get yourself organized for the day. When the early shoppers see you’re open early, they’ll begin coming into your store to “browse and kill time” while they wait for the other stores to open.

If you cannot be there to “open the store” then hire part time help. The best arrangement is house wives or college students in 4 hour shifts at the minimum wage.

First off, write out a list of duties you want each clerk to perform while he’s on shift. In addition to taking care of sales transactions, you might want him to do some stocking, dusting, cleaning, sorting and pricing. Regardless, you’ll have fewer problems and enjoy bigger profits if you formally write these “shift duties” out, and post them as job requirements, and explain them when you interview for hired help.

Look for, and try to hire only book lovers who are personable, outgoing, and have some sort of business aptitude. You the train these people in all phases of your operation, with the thought in mind that they will run the store in your absence, and eventually be your store manager. The best way to find such people is by talking with your customers, observing which might be willing to work for you, and which of them might best fulfill your needs.

You’ll need a outside sign for your store preferably one that hangs right angles to the flow of traffic in front of your store.

There are many different types of ebooks available for children. There are educational books, novels, classic literature, and much more. The most popular ebooks for children are your basic short stories.

These make up a majority of what children like to read since they often cant sit still long enough for something longer. The best type of ebook for your child really depends on their needs and interests.

Educational ebooks for children are very popular. Since the PDF format is used quite a bit for ebooks, they allow the use of pictures and hyperlinks. This way if your child is learning about space, there may be links to useful websites like NASA and a lot of interesting pictures to keep your child’s attention.

Novels in ebook format can be great for kids because they have the ability to increase or decrease the size of the text and if they are using a portable ebook reader, they can carry over 100 books with them.

This is great for long flights, vacations and family reunions that can be pretty boring at times and ebooks can kill a lot of time.

An often overlooked type of ebook for children is the textbook. More and more children today are being home schooled and the price of a year’s worth of textbooks can be over $1000.00.

If you get them in ebook format however, you may only pay half as much. This can make a big difference in someone’s budget and insure the child gets all of their proper textbooks.

Where to Find Children’s Books

The Internet is a huge and wonderful place that is full of information of all kinds. Children’s ebooks are booming and becoming more and more popular as portable technology gets better.

It’s now possible to get a portable ebook reader that can hold over 100 novels and some game devices like the PSP enable you to read ebooks on them.

Where do you find these ebooks though? Well, they are becoming so popular that most online bookstores have an ebook section.

Amazon, Ebay, and many more are great places to check. Barnes and Noble used to have a great ebook selection but closed that area down.

Many of your children’s favorite novels are available as ebooks and the prices are very reasonable. The popular series Eragon may cost $22.95 for a hardcover edition but the same novel in ebook form is about $8.00.

This has many benefits. The most obvious one is that it cant be destroyed. Unless you reformat your computer, that ebook will be with you forever.

You can download it to personal ebook readers as well. Harry Potter, Goosebumps, and many popular children’s stories are all out there waiting to be read.

Many of these sites will require you to register with them and you can choose whether or not to receive e-mail from these sites. If your child is an avid reader of ebooks, it might be beneficial to subscribe to their ‘What’s New’ newsletters.

This can keep you and your child informed about when the next book in a series is going to be released and might even recommend books of a similar nature.

Children’s ebooks can be a lot of fun for the entire family. Many of today’s most popular authors offer their books to be purchased and downloaded as an ebook.

These ebooks often come with special features and built in links to related material that may be of interest to the reader as well.

If you are reading an ebook about dragons, there might be links within the text that will take you to a website all about dragons. There is much more to children’s ebooks than just this however.

Children’s ebooks offer your child a different experience than with your typical paper books. Ebooks can do many things a typical book can’t.

They can have sound effects, video clips, activity pages, and much more. It can make a big difference to a child that doesn’t have the attention span to sit down and read a normal book.

Many ebooks offer this kind of interactivity and might even come with an audio CD or multimedia CD included. This encourages children of all ages to become involved with different types of literature and can build a lifelong love of books.

A good thing about children’s ebooks is that you can get them immediately from the comfort of your own home. You don’t have to wait weeks for an ordered book to arrive and you don’t have to browse a bookstore which can be a daunting task if you have a younger child.

They also don’t get destroyed, lost, spilled on, or chewed up!

Multimedia Ebooks For Children

Though much harder to find than regular ebooks, multimedia ebooks for children can be a lot of fun for children of all ages. A multimedia ebook will have all kinds of cool features a standard ebook will not.

They could have a CD that accompanies them or could be on the CD themselves. These are usually ordered from the Internet instead of downloaded but you can find a few places that will have them available for download.

The difference between a multimedia ebook and a regular ebook is that your child can interact with and sometimes even change the story. This turns passive reading into something much more active.

When you get a multimedia ebook, it will either be on a CD or come as an executable or EXE file. This is because it is more of a program than a document. Many of these ebooks allow multiple people to use them and have an area to input your name.

Some multimedia ebooks will allow your child to have his name or even his picture put into the actual story. This may require some adult assistance but can be a lot of fun.

It can really encourage a young reader to get involved with books if they are a part of the story.

Multimedia ebooks can be more expensive than regular ebooks and can be hard to find as well. Some retailers will have them in the computer software aisle but your best bet is to check with bookstores on the Internet or Ebay.

Once you have your novel or book written, edited, and stuffed into an envelope, you have to decide where to mail it. There are hundreds of book publishers out there, but you shouldn’t just pick one at random and mail off your pride and joy. You have to do a lot of research to make sure you are sending it to the right place. You also have to consider if you have the book formatted correctly, and if the submission is up to their standards. If you don’t consider these things, you are going to end up with nothing more than a large stack of rejection slips from book publishers.

The best place to start when looking for book publishers is Writer’s Market. This book is published once a year, and has the most up-to-date information on book publishers, magazines publishers, and any other writing market you can imagine. They give you the most up-to-date information about what each publisher specializes in, who to contact, and how to format your manuscript to meet their specifications. If you skip this step, you are doing yourself a big disservice. You can also find Writer’s Market online for even more current information.

Book publishers are often swamped with submissions. If you are a first time writer, you may want to find an agent to help get your manuscript a little attention. They have contacts with book publishers, and you never know whom they know, and who owes them a favor. Agents are skilled at selling your book, and at the very least, can get the right person to look at it. They can’t guarantee they will get you published, but if you find a good agent, your chances increase dramatically.

Look around online for some help. There are free guides and information out there about finding and approaching book publishers. These tips may mean the difference between someone reading your submission, and someone tossing it in the rejected pile unread. These guides will help you craft a great cover letter as well as what information to include, and how to get an editors attention.

If you have struck out with traditional books publishers, you can try to publish your own novel. There are companies that help you with printing your book, but for the most part, marketing and distribution will rest solely on your shoulders. Take into consideration your skills in this area before you go this route. Beware of scams. There are some companies that will take your money and do little else. Before you sign up with any self-publishing company, do extensive research before you commit to anything.

I have been an avid reader for most of my life. These days, nothing relaxes me quite like curling up on the sofa with a good cup of coffee and a couple of the latest best seller books in front of me. That’s the first thing I do when I get back from a long day at the office, and that’s how I spend most of my Sundays. As you can imagine, I go through plenty of titles in a month. And since I can’t depend on the library to have copies of the current novels I want to read, I have to find a way to consistently get discounts on best seller books. Fortunately, I’ve been able to do just that.

Over the years, I’ve tried several different ways to get discounts on best seller books. For example, I’ve joined those Books of the Month Clubs that many publishers offer. I didn’t really like the experience, however, since those clubs usually offered very few best seller books and since the selections were limited to titles published by that particular company. Also, some of the clubs advertised discounts that were good for only a few months out of the membership. The rest of the time, I had to pay the cover price for the titles I wanted.

After my adventures with these book clubs, I decided to try my luck with bookstores in my area. Many of the major chains offer discounts on new best seller books during the first few weeks of their release. This system worked a little better for me, and I was able to purchase numerous best seller books soon after they came out. But there were many occasions when I simply didn’t have time to make it out to the bookstore while the sales were on. As a result, I had to miss out on a lot of best seller books or wait until they came out in paperback. Clearly, I needed to find an alternative.

That’s when I learned that I could buy all of the latest best seller books online. There are hundreds of different websites that specialize in selling both fiction and nonfiction titles at unbelievable discounts. I regularly enjoy savings of anywhere from 30 to 70 percent off the retail price of brand-new, hardcover best seller books. Plus, everything I order gets shipped right to my door so I never have to worry about finding time to go to the store. As a result, I can stock up on all of the great novels that I want to read without worrying about running up my credit card bill.

If you’re looking for a way to save money when you buy best seller books, I recommend purchasing online. Once you experience the savings and convenience of shopping online, you might never step foot inside a regular bookstore again!

Was there nothing more ideal than snuggling down under the poofy down or fuzzy blanket, sipping cocoa with marshmallow, and listening to Mom, Dad, or a beloved elder read to us from our favorite story books as we settled in for a nap or a full night’s sleep? Is there nothing as rewarding of nostalgia today than our reading those same story books to ourselves just for the hell of it or to our younger ones…to return the feeling we once so delighted in? I think of many ranges, genres, and reading levels when I think of, see, or hear “story books”, but I also have a mental list of those that are “must reads”, those that I would offer anyone who will follow through the suggestion that at any age, you should read this or that book. Here are some of the best story books for kids AND adults:

* Winnie the Pooh – In graduate school, in the portal course to a degree in Lit and Teaching Lit, the professor insisted that anyone serious about literature will read Winnie the Pooh. I still haven’t gotten all of the nuances and symbolism yet, but I am working on it, just as I am on.

* Alice in Wonderland – The adventures, the originality, the passion for language and logic make this a classic on the must-read story books list.

* The Giving Tree, The Missing Piece, and any Shel Silverstein. If having almost every one of his story books banned, threatened, or challenged is any indication that his works are provocative (in their utter simplicity) then Shel Silverstein (once a writer for Dr. Hook) should be at the top of your list.

Story books like I Love You This Much will tear your heart out. Story books like The Nancy Drew Mysteries Series or the Hardy Boy Mystery Series will intrigue. And the Harry Potter and American Girl Series are the modern equivalents of “acceptable” story books for kids, teens, and even some adults. I would recommend Roald Dahl and Robert McCormier, too, though, again, like Silverstein, these authors do not apologize for their brilliance by limiting their range, creativity, or storyline development and characterization.

If you have young kids and haven’t heard or thought about this yet, know that children who are read to become readers. Some become writers. Even if you don’t have kids, the next time you are in a brick and mortar store or browsing online at amazon or Powells.com, sneak into the kids’ story books section. You will laugh, you will cry, you will swoon…and maybe even wish you were a kid again, climbing under the covers and settling in for the best part of the day. Or maybe you will wish you had written the story books yourself.

There are literally hundreds of scholarships, grants and loan programs available to college students today but, for the vast majority of students, at least some part of their funding will come from a federal student loan program.

There are a number of different federal student loan programs, including the Stafford loan program which is aimed at students and the PLUS loan program which is aimed at parents and graduate students, but within those programs which are aimed at students there are two main categories of loan which it is vital to understand and these are subsidized and unsubsidized loans.

Both subsidized and unsubsidized loans are similar in the sense that students will not need to make repayments on their loans while they are attending college and payments will not usually start until six months after they have graduated. However, when it comes to the amount of money which students will have to repay these two categories of loans are very different.

In the case of subsidized loans interest is charged to the loan from the date on which the loan is paid but, while the student is attending college and for the grace period between gradation and the date on which the students starts to make repayments, the government pays the interest due.

By contrast, unsubsidized loans again accrue interest from the day on which the loan is paid but, instead of being paid by the government, this interest is added to the loan to eventually be paid by the student when he or she starts making repayments some six months after graduation.

Interest on an unsubsidized loan is calculated on a monthly basis and even at very low interest rates can build quite quickly. For example, a loan will attract higher and higher interest charges each month as each interest charge is added to the loan and itself becomes subject to interest payments. Given therefore that most students will be taking out several loans over the course of their time at college and will not normally start repaying these for three and a half years or more this can increase considerably the amount of debt you have, over and above the sum which you have actually borrowed.

From this it will be seen that wherever possible you should always try to get a subsidized loan first and then top this up with unsubsidized loans if necessary. This said, it is not quite as easy as you might think and you will need to satisfy the requirements for the various different types of loan and then apply using the standard FAFSA application form in the normal way to see whether or not you can get the loan you want. Most student will however find that it is possible to get a Stafford college loan and indeed many will also qualify for other forms of federal loan assistance.

The first point of call for any college student looking for a loan should be the federal student loans programs which provide loans without any requirement for a credit check and with repayment deferred until after graduation. However, the federal student loans programs are based upon a student’s need and carry a number of criteria which can sometimes make it difficult to qualify. And, even if you do qualify, federal loans will not always be sufficient to meet your needs and leave you with a shortfall. At this point therefore it is often a case of turning to the private sector for the loan funding you need.

The biggest drawback for many students as far as private loans are concerned is that they invariably require a credit check and will only be granted if you have a good credit history. The term ‘good’ however is not always easy to define and sometimes you will find that your credit rating is good enough to get you a loan but not quite good enough to get you the best rate of interest.

However, even if you do manage to get a loan at a reasonable rate of interest you will find that there are other things which you need to take into account. For example, administration fees will often be added to the loan before it is disbursed and these can typically be in the region of 4%. In other words, if you borrow $5,000 then $200 will be added to your loan in fees and this is money which you will not actually receive but will be required to repay. Fees are an important part of your loan consideration because, in very rough terms, every 3% you pay in fees is equivalent to adding 1% to your loan interest rate.

This said, there are also a number of advantages to taking out private loans, not the least of which is their availability. Private lenders are in business to make money and the more money they lend the more money they make. So, whereas federal lenders operate to a strict set of guidelines which you either meet or do not meet, private lenders will work hard to see that you get your loan if it is at all possible.

You will also find that dealing with a private company is generally a lot easier than dealing with federal bureaucracy. It is often true that private lender’s customer service departments are understaffed and you can find yourself ‘on hold’ in a queue fairly often, but it is still generally far simpler to sort out problems with a private lender.

Depending on how much you need to borrow and how good your present credit rating is, it is possible to get private loans which carry no fees and have an interest rate that is on a par with the prime lending rate. Now you will have to have a very good track record to do this, but it is possible. Even if you cannot manage this however, competition in the marketplace means that by shopping around you will often be able to find some pretty good deals.

One trick you may be able to employ if your credit rating is not too great is to bring a cosigner into the equation. A cosigner is simply somebody (possibly a parent) with a good credit rating who is willing to cosign your loan application and to guarantee the repayment of the loan. Depending on your own standing with the lender, you may find that a cosigner can get you a loan with reduced fees and a substantially reduced interest rate.

Many students today shy away from private loans or view them very much as a last resort but, if you shop around and find a few lenders who are prepared to offer you one of their low interest student loans, it could prove very helpful in getting you through college.

Funding your way through college is an expensive business and most students dive headfirst into the search for college loans without a second thought. However, loans have to be repaid and, with interest charges, this can become another very expensive business once you have finished college. Scholarships by contrast represent free money which does not have to be repaid and scholarships are far more widely available than most students think.

It is often thought that college scholarships are only available to academic high-fliers or to athletes of exceptional ability but nothing could be further from the truth and there are in fact scholarships available for students in a huge variety of different categories.

True, the majority of scholarships are academic and the first requirement to qualify is excellent grades. However, this tends to be just the requirement to make the cut for consideration and the scholarships themselves will be awarded to students who have other things to offer. The variations here are endless and very much a matter for the awarding body but might include such things as a record of voluntary and community service.

There are however scholarships awarded to residents of Howard County, Italian students who are residents of Vermont, the children of veterans, residents of Pennsylvania who are majoring in debating or public speaking and Polish students who are majoring in engineering or science to mention just a handful of the hundreds of scholarships currently available. Indeed, whatever your background, you will almost certainly find that there are scholarships available for which you can apply.

Having found one or two scholarships for which you can apply the next step is to contact the awarding body and ask for an application form, together with details of the application process. You will need to study these very carefully because many applications fail simply because the student has not completed the application form correctly or has submitted the application late or without the necessary supporting documentation. You also need to think very carefully about just what you are going to say on your application and how you are going to say it. Wording your application correctly can make the difference between it being dismissed without a second glance or getting a scholarship.

One point to note is that while in general scholarship money is free money, there are certain circumstances in which scholarships are taxable. Here you will need to check with the awarding body and the IRS but in general as long as you are studying for a degree at an educational institution and the money is being used to pay for such things as tuition and other fees directly associated with your education then the scholarship will be free of tax.

As far as looking for college scholarships is concerned then there is no better place to start your search than online where you will find several excellent sites providing details of currently available awards.

You have to consider that education is one of the most important investments that you will ever make in your whole life. This is why your parents save money in order for you to get in a good college and finish it. As a parent, you want your child to have the best education money can buy. With a college education, your children will be able to live a good life.

College education is required by many companies today in order to have a spirited workforce that will keep their company competitive in the world of business. Whatever field your child chooses, you have to remember that college education will land them that job they want and also secure their future.

You also have to consider that the high paying jobs today requires a college degree. If your child doesn’t have a college degree, then the chances for them to find the job they want with good compensation will be very hard.

However, what if you can’t afford to pay for college? With the decline in today’s economy, just making ends meet is a challenge. So, you may now ask, what about your child? What happens to your plans in saving money for them in order to get in a good college?

One good way to get your child to a good college is by letting them play soccer. It is a fact that it may seem too good to believe that soccer can take your child to college. However, there are good colleges out there that offer college soccer scholarship. They send out scouts to different schools to evaluate different soccer players and offer the best soccer player a college scholarship. This is one of the best and the most common ways that your child can earn a scholarship.

If your child loves playing soccer, you should consider investing in this sport in order to improve your child’s soccer skills. Armed with good soccer skills will prepare them for athletic scholarship grants that many colleges are sponsoring. However, your child should be the best in the sport in order to get noticed.

You have to consider that soccer isn’t really a very good career choice for your child. The odds of getting a career out of soccer are very close to nil. You just have to think of soccer as a ticket for your child to attend a good college where they can learn the field they choose and prepare them for the future.

You should advice your child that being soccer pro will be a very hard thing to achieve and they should also study in the field they choose in order to let them have a second option on getting the job they want. You have to advice them that although they should work hard in their soccer skills, they should also work hard in their academics and study hard in order to prepare them in case they don’t make it as a professional soccer player.

When applying for a college soccer scholarship, you can get your child to be involved in the Olympic Development Program. This program will increase their chances in getting a college scholarship and will also let your child polish their skills in playing soccer. It is also recommended that you child should play for a good soccer club as well as in their high school.

Always remember that college soccer scholarships are sought by a lot of students. By having the proper skills and the proper discipline, your child will be able to play soccer in college and at the same time, earn their scholarship.

If you’re on your way to college, you might be confused with the many courses being offered. Choosing one can give you a headache, but if you already know what particular career you want to pursue after college, you will not have much difficulty.

Observe the trends in the job market. The medical field hires a lot of competent people every year, and the demand for medical professionals is still increasing at present. Even those who already have a career are looking for ways to join this particular field.

Nurses are badly needed. The demand for nursing graduates is growing. Health agencies and other services are looking for highly trained and qualified nurses. That is probably why many students are attracted to this field.

The primary problem that most students encounter before they go to college, especially with a nursing course, is funding. Though this field is very much in demand, not all aspiring nursing students are able to graduate because of financial problems.

Public colleges which offer nursing courses can cost you around $14,000 a year; and if you want to attend college in a private university, the cost can reach as high as $30,000 a year. And to think that the tuition fees increase every year. You can just imagine how much it’s going to cost you if you want to graduate with a nursing degree.

Nursing is quite an expensive course, and if you don’t have the money, you can’t possibly graduate. What a sad ending for an aspiring student, but don’t lose hope yet. There are still ways to pursue your college studies without anymore worrying for your expenses.

Education helps people learn about different things, but it doesn’t end there, it is also a business in itself. If you don’t have enough money, you can’t get the best education possible. If you don’t have money, that is not a problem. If you want to finish a course in nursing, you must be aware that it entails a lot of coursework. So if you are a working student, you will surely have difficulty in keeping up with your job and the coursework. What you need is a college scholarship to fully concentrate in your education.

First and foremost, you must contact nursing associations in your locality, your state’s nursing board, and the American Nurses Association (ANA). Check the website of ANA on the net because they can provide you with the necessary information you will need for a nursing scholarship and grants. All it takes is a little research.

Federal government funds certain nursing scholarships, as well as private entities. Schools, agencies, and corporations offer nursing scholarships for individual students.

You will need all indispensable information from certain people like the college of nursing department head. He/she can provide you with scholarship/grant applications. Or you can also contact the person in authority who provides scholarship/grants to nursing students.

You’re quite lucky if you have parents who can fund your way to college, but if you’re one of the less fortunate ones, you definitely need some form of assistance. Stand up and make a move, don’t just sit there and wait for someone to offer you a scholarship of some sort. Chances are it wouldn’t come looking for you.

If you are quite confident that you can maintain a scholarship, apply for one. It never hurts to try.

“Education is expensive, if you want something cheaper, try ignorance,” this is one of the clichés that has ben well worn and said over a million times. But this cliché is a reality that painfully bites.
Nowadays, only a few numbers of students have parents who can really afford their education in college without placing excessive burden on their shoulders. The common scenario for youths today is working while studying at the same time, especially in college, working students as what they are termed.

Most often the academic performances of these working students’ suffer if they will not be able to manage their time wisely. But are we going to allow education to be exclusive only for the wealthy? The answer is, definitely not.

That is why education grants benefits and opportunities exist. The purpose of this is to help the students to sustain their college education by generating educational funds though minimal.

Grants unlike scholarships are based on the students’ specific need, if not a combination of needs and merits.

However, before you get this privilege, you have to be assured that you are eligible for the opportunity. Basically, the process of grants benefited both the students and the institutions that are using that grant money to develop the curriculum, employ new faculties, and construct new facilities.

The difference of grants to the scholarships and students’ loans is that it is given to the benefactor without any expectation of repaying it. Grant is a monetary gift. Scholarship on the other hand, is awarded according to the academic merit though it is also a monetary gift.

However, the students’ loans really differ among the three privileges. Students’ loan is the sum of money being borrowed by the student to finance his schooling with the agreement to repay it after some time with the corresponding interests.

The awarding of grants may come in general categories, or it may also be awarded to students who are pursuing a specialized degree program, like mathematics or business, or to various degree levels, such as Bachelors, Associate, Doctoral or Masters.

Also, grants may come originally from different sources: college and university, public and private organization, and federal state.

Since grants are specially meant for the financially unprivileged, certain grants exist for the deprived, underrepresented minorities and students. There are also some cases wherein the grant money is exchanged for professional service after the graduation. This is common to those taking up health care professions. The main purpose of this is to keep trained professionals in medically underserved regions.

Grants are particularly taken up by the adult students to return to college or to college programs that will direct them in reentering the place of work.

This is usual since college does not anymore require for the traditional age, specifically between 18 to 24 years of age. Americans nowadays are becoming more and more practical in considering several chances to receive a degree. And this modern perception has driven adult students to flock into colleges without the fear of public scrutiny unlike before.

The world today is requiring skillful and sharp new set of labor force for them to be able to join the flow of the competitive market. And for the applicants to be credible for these characteristics they must present a college diploma.

Hence, having a college degree is really vital.

When we speak of college scholarship application, the burden is always on the parents. Since they have the responsibility over the education of their children and they know what will be good for them, parents apply personally for the college scholarship of their children.

What if we turn the tide? From primary to secondary education, your parents accepted the responsibility. But you are old enough to take care of a simple college scholarship application. It takes some courage, self-confidence, and some excellent academic records to apply for a college scholarship. Keep in mind that is you who will utilize the financial aid that comes with the scholarship and not your parents. Thus, applying for a college scholarship is now your business, and you can do it with less supervision from your parents.

The procedure for college scholarship application is similar when you apply for college. You need to learn every scholarship opportunity available and make a list of potential prospects that you think will fit your personal needs. Once through with the list, you need to create an application letter and state your achievements (good high school scholastic records and recommendation letters from your high school director and teachers) and you are now on your way on getting into college for less, if not for free.

The above-mentioned procedure is the most common way of getting a college scholarship. However, the chances of success lies in you, and you need to exert more effort to assure yourself of a financial aid when you go to college. To increase your chances, here are some pointers that you can consider:

• You should start as early as your high school years. There are many college scholarships that open during your senior high school year. In addition, these financial aid programs are only open in a specific period of time. Once the application closes, you have to wait for another year before you can file for your application. Starting early will give you better chances of getting the best financial aid available.

• Give importance to the scholarship requirements. Keep in mind that among all available scholarships, there are only few that will fit your qualifications. Read the eligibility standards of the college scholarship that you want to apply. If you found out that the financial aid does not fit with the qualifications that you have, search for another. Do not insist yourself on scholarships where your chances of success is minute.

• Do not forget to complete the requirements asked by the college scholarship. Prepare the documents that are commonly asked by the scholarship grantee to its applicants.

• Your application letter will be your “speaking alter-ego” to the sponsor of the college scholarship you have applied for. Thus, you need to create an application letter that will convince the sponsor that you honestly need the financial aid and you deserve to get one, state honest information in your application. Never include false information especially if your purpose is just to “flatter” the sponsor with your achievements.

After you followed the aforementioned recipe, you are now ready to submit your application to the scholarship screening committee. Be prepared for other requirements (such as interviews and examinations) that will determine if you are eligible to receive a college scholarship.

Follow the aforementioned college freshman’s recipe when you apply for a college scholarship. And best of all, do not forget to pray that the sponsor would consider you eligible for the college scholarship. Good luck!

High school days are usually the time when you can fully enjoy your student life, and after you graduate, it’s time for you to go to college. But the truth is, many students are unable to go to college because of certain financial issues. This however, should not hinder you from pursuing higher education. You have options, and all you have to do is to discover what options are available for would-be college students like you.

Having a brilliant career is probably what most students are dreaming about and you can only achieve this if you are able to graduate from college. With all the financial constraints surrounding you, don’t give up easily and check these six options for you to choose from,

1.	scholarships
2.	grants
3.	loans
4.	get a part-time job
5.	join community programs and avail of their services
6.	joining the army

Among these six options, the first two are usually the likely choice of almost any student. You can find scholarships and grants in almost any part of the globe. Perhaps the reason why many students prefer these options is because they don’t have to repay the money that they’ll be using through college.

This is truly an advantage compared to acquiring a loan. A loan needs to be repaid at a specific date and time while scholarships/grants are given to students free.

Talk to your high school guidance counselor, because he/she might know of particular institutions or universities which offer college scholarships and grants. Applicants with artistic, athletic, and scientific talents are also given special scholarships especially those who are in need of serious financial resources. Also, check for online databases that cater to college scholarships which the public can browse freely.

Many students may think that a grant is similar to a college scholarship. It is different in the sense that with a grant, you are required to submit a proposal for a possible future project. And if your proposal is quite good, you can find a sponsor which can fund your way through college.

Scholarships on the other hand, are given to students based on their achievements. So, college scholarships are much easier to obtain than grants.

Any way you choose, you still have to meet their standards. And if the institution or university decides that you are a qualified applicant, then that is only the time that you can enjoy the benefits of being a scholar.

When you are finally awarded with a scholarship or grant, be responsible and do everything you can to maintain your good standing in class. Oftentimes, scholarships and grants require you to maintain certain ratings while you’re in college. You must also be aware that they can also terminate your scholarship/grant if they see it fit.

The money that you’ll get from the scholarship should be used to fund your way to college; like payment of tuition fees and other school fees. Take advantage of your situation and make the most out of your free education. Don’t waste the chance that has been given to you.

The career that you’ve wanted all these years is just waiting for you. So take chances, life is full of many obstacles; but if you are hardworking, diligent, and patient, you can go through your college life with ease.

Education is the key for a successful career, which is why it is the primary responsibility of all parents to send their children to school. Although education is a necessity, not all parents are able to fund their children’s schooling. Others usually stop after they graduate from high school.

This is truly happening in almost any part of the world, and according to statistics, the number is increasing year after year. And this is probably why the government and other private organizations are looking for ways to give scholarships to capable students with limited financial resources.

Students are not alike; in fact, each individual has his/her own distinct characteristic and talent. Some students have talents in the arts, dancing, singing, and music. Now, there are scholarships for particular fields of interest. And if you do love music very much, there are a lot of scholarships for college music.

Music is very popular, and many students are becoming interested in this certain area. Although some parents may not like their children to pursue a career in music (because what they want is a more stable career), students have a choice.

Here is a list of some of the music scholarships available for students:

1. vocal scholarship from Bel Canto; this foundation awards over $15,000 to opera singers with ages ranging from 20-37 who want to pursue an opera career in America
2. John Lennon program for BMI scholarship; this is a scholarship awarded to songwriters who are able to write original compositions. But you can only take advantage of this scholarship if you are invited
3. Scholarship award by String Magazine; this is open for students who are currently in undergraduate program; the award is usually based on academic merit, community service and financial need.
4. FAME also awards college scholarships for students who are nominated for professional achievement for senior college students.

The internet can provide you with a wide range of music scholarship resources. There are different websites which you can visit, and once you’re in their site, see what requirements are needed in order to qualify for the scholarship.

Almost any big university offers a form of scholarship, check with their registrar for scholarship information. There are universities in your local area, take time to visit them. It would be best if you make a list of the different college scholarships awarded to students with interest in music.

Music is a field of interest which only very few individuals take interest. So if you’re one of the few people struggling to get a college degree in music, begin your search for the scholarship. If you think, you can pass the required qualifications, go and take the chance.

Like any other student dreaming of a life in college, you should not be discouraged by the difficulty that you’re now facing. People have problems, and that can’t be avoided.

Financial constraints are not enough to stop you from getting that college education. Choose the best option available for you. This is your way to a dazzling career in the near future.

You are a gifted individual. Share your talent with other people, and show them your love for music. And who knows, you might just be the one that the music industry is waiting for all these years.

So you are already a graduate of secondary education, of course the mark of happiness and fulfillment can still be traced on your face. However, you need to accept the fact that entering the portals of college is not as easy as you may think it is.

The preparation for college requires lots of effort to the point of giving you loads of stress if you will not be able to distinguish the best strategies to take.

First, you will be selecting the course that you want to take, you need to meet the hassles in taking the entrance examinations, the perplexity in choosing which school you would like to attend, not just that, you still have to consider its standards.

But the greatest stress is rooted from the expenses that you will need to be able to take the course that you want, and to be able to enter the institution with a good standard of teaching. You have to consider before anything else your parent’s capacity to pay your education.

But don’t fret if you think money will be a hindrance in pursuing your college education. Several types of scholarships are being offered to assist the financially unprivileged students. There are several public and private organizations, federal and state, college and university, that offer scholarship in different forms.

Chiefly, scholarship is a form of monetary gift which is awarded and is founded on the academic merits. For this reason the eligibility of the student definitely matters.

There is a Freshman Honor Scholarship, this is funded by organizations which grant scholarship to those students who are by far excelling in the class and were able to gain honors. The requirements may come in separate application form, while there are others that do not.

There is also a Presidential Scholarship, majority of its beneficiaries are incoming honors college students. Likewise, the valedictorians and salutatorians of accredited high school may able to receive this scholarship.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Scholarship is renewable for eight semesters, depending on the result of the annual review. This covers 50 percent of in-state or out-of-state tuition, although this does not comprise the fees. Likewise, this specifically covers the entire tuition/fees including room and board.

The sole requirement for this scholarship is a minimum 3.0 GPA a student must maintain. No more application is necessary.

Meanwhile, the students who weren’t accepted in the Freshman Honor Scholarship may take their chances on the Presidential Scholarship. Unlike the former, the Presidential Scholarship select the scholars by committee and is founded not solely on academic ability, but also on creativity, character, and impending for leadership.

Those students who qualify in Freshman Honor College will be sent the materials for application. The process of application only evolves in written application, then the on-campus conversation follows with the program’s director or a committees’ representative, and the last, a spontaneous essay.

The entire applicants’ are responsible for submitting the complete applications to the program’s director. The deadline is set on the mid of January. The nominations from the school will not be received as well as the applications.

The finalists of this scholarship will be given notice on or before the 31st of January to schedule an on-campus visit. The interviews must be accomplished by March 1.

These are only some of the available scholarships being offered for an incoming freshman in college. There are still several of these, you can try to visit another sites to have a thorough knowledge about them.

Many of the youth today are gifted with aptitudes in sports. Some excel in gymnastics, swimming, archery, while the others excel in football, golf, martial arts, track and field events, and the list goes on.

Nowadays, the youths agility to fulfill their passions comes with a bonus—athletic scholarship.

Athletic scholarships are specially designed for the students who excel in sports provided they will be able to acquire a good grade which is appropriate to the required scores of the organization who funded the scholarship. And of course, the talent that goes with the discipline a devoted sports person desires.

If you are one of these sports person who want to acquire the said scholarship, your initial step is to look for the college institutions or universities which present the academic program that suits to your interests.

However, you still have to note that educating yourself even thoughplaying sports. As you join a division, you must carefully weigh the pros and cons of attending either in smaller colleges or large institutions.

You may find yourself standing out though in a smaller college. You may also join in large institutions, but chances are you might find yourself just as an alternative to a lot of other athletes.

You must be aware that the sports played during college are not like playing in your school or in your local community. Before engaging here, you can consult first your trainer/coach if you’re “good enough” to qualify for college sports already.

The level of play is very much different and so much competition has sent what was dubbed as great players in their community to mediocrity in this level.

There are two ways in presenting the athletic scholarship. First is through official applications. And the following is the scout’s recommendations who represents the colleges and who travels to assess players in various sports, looking for the players that possess star qualities.

If you aim to succeed, aim to excel in your sophomore year. Maintain high grades to meet the academic requirements. It is also advisable that you compile your accomplishments for being an athlete. Consult to your coach whether which sports you will be best fitted according to your abilities.

Also, be keen in selecting the school which offers an immense balance between sports and academics. Talk to a career guidance counselor; this may help you in choosing the subjects you can study so you can qualify not just in sports alone. Establish contacts among the coaches of the college where you are applying, in addition, and let them know that yoo are dedicated and eager to know more about their curriculum.

Most of all, show your best advantages like showcasing both academic and athletic accomplisments. Then cite that you are looking for a scholarship. It will also be an advantage if you would initiate in submitting the applications to the college where the coach you wanted to contact works, this will emphasize your enthusiasm on the program.

With all the colleges and universities that offer athletic scholarships for great athletes, your college education will never be too straining to your parent’s purse anymore. Instead, they will feel glorified of having a kid who can excel not just in sports alone, but also in academics.

Now, as you go on to your application, remember that handling the application sensibly matched with discipline are the best recipes to ensure full scholarship in college.

Many believe that being a parent is the happiest moment in the life of a human being. Probably you still remember the excitement that you felt when your wife gave birth to your first child. There are times that you will not sleep because you want to take care of your child even in the midst of the evening. You want to ensure that he/she will sleep soundly through the night.

It is true that happiness comes with children in the family. However, such happiness could be achieved if you are responsible enough with your children. You need to provide all of their needs, starting from their infancy until the time that they are studying. Although it will really cost you a lot, you have the responsibility to your children, especially in giving them the education that they need.

If you have children who are now going to college, you have to think of their financial needs. Probably you still remember your own collegiate years and you are aware of the financial needs of an ordinary college student. However, the difference is that you are now the parent—you will now be the one to think of the different payments that you need to settle for your children’s college education, such as college application, scholastic assessment test expenditures, transcript of records, and others. Add to it the lodging and food allowance of your children if the college or university is far away from your own residence.

Thinking all of these college-related expenses could be overwhelming and bothering as well, especially if your salary is not enough to support such expenses and your family’s financial needs at the same time. But if you know how to get a college financial aid for your children, you will find out that everything will work out smoothly.

How you will start your search for the college financial aid for your children? Here are some tips that you can start with:

• When your children are still on their high school years, you should start searching for potential universities that offer college scholarships for deserving freshman students as well as financial aid programs funded by different organizations. You may start your search on the Internet to look for possible college financial aid options for your children.
• Once you find a prospective university, visit their main office and inquire for any college scholarship or financial aid offers.
•	Always ask for the cut-off dates of filing and submission of college financial aid application forms.
• Tell your children about the importance of a scholarship to their college education. Make them aware that they have plenty of options to consider as long as they have good high school scholastic records. In this way, you will be able to motivate them to study harder and make good grades, thus increasing your chances of a good financial aid.
• You may also consider filing an application for financial aid programs funded by the Federal government. State-owned colleges and universities offer this kind of financial assistance to qualified and deserving students who want to pursue their college studies despite of financial difficulties. You may submit the FAFSA (Free Application Form Student Aid) personally.
• Make certain that you have completed all the FAFSA requirements (such as present statement of bank accounts, monthly income records, present mortgage information, and others) and understand the rights or specialadvantages before accepting the financial aid for your children. You may also check if the financial aid is renewable.

With different financial aid programs such as college scholarships and federal grants, you are assured of a bright future for your children despite of the financial difficulties that you are currently experiencing.

When it comes to college, you are considering an expensive proposition any way you look at it. There are however, ways in which you can greatly reduce your overall expenses when it comes to getting your college degree. The first method, which in many cases is the most preferred, is by attending a community college for the first two years of your college educational experience. Believe it or not you can literally save thousands of dollars over the course of spending two years on the community college level.

You will hear all kinds of arguments on why it is better to attend all four years at a university. The universities almost always make these arguments. Unfortunately, their opinions are a little bit biased in these matters. Most universities offer equivalent courses with community colleges meaning that the first two years of study should transfer with no problems or snags along the rocky road to your degree.

The universities make money each semester you begin class as a student. It is in their best interest financially to have you from the beginning rather than as a transfer. In fact, many universities offer lower level classes as auditorium classes. They pack more students into classes and have fewer professors or graduate students teaching the courses and maximize their money off the first and second year students rather than those in upper level courses. Yet another reason to consider a community college for the first two years of you education.

Getting back to the expenses of a community college, most community colleges are largely commuter campuses. This means you won’t face the high housing costs that are associated with universities, particularly if you are attending college close to home. Community colleges also offer far less distractions that cost additional money than most major universities. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t ample social opportunities; it simply means that there are fewer of them. This also leaves fewer distractions than universities present when it comes to studying.

Community colleges simply cost less all around. While it would be nice if you could receive a full four year education at this level, they are able, for the most part, to keep expenses down by not requiring the level of qualification that universities require of their professors for upper level courses. You will have excellent, if not superior quality of education at lower levels than you would have on the university level, but you will also eventually need to move on to the university level in order to complete your education.

For this reason, you would do well to save half of your savings over university costs for each of the two years you are attending community college and apply it to your university education. This will ease the burden of the additional costs of the university and feel as though you are paying the same amount for tuition throughout your education regardless of the fact that you are literally saving thousands of dollars on your educational expenses.

Some states have educational savings plans that allow parents to save for tuition at current costs by enrolling. These plans cover two years of community college education and two years of university education. By locking in today’s prices you are eliminating the inflation. When you consider the fact that college tuition is increasing at an alarming rate this is by far an excellent way to go. You should check with your state and see if they offer a similar plan to parents of younger children and what the requirements are in order to enroll your child today.

If you are looking for a real value in education whether or not you only go for your two year degree of move on to a university in order to finish your four-year degree you should find that a community college education offers a significant value for the money. Most people find that every penny they spent in a community college was a penny well spent.

There are all kinds of college programs that are available today for those seeking higher education and degrees in a wide variety of fields. The problem often lies in finding the type of education that is appropriate for your specific needs. We all learn best through different methods and identifying your learning method is a great way to understand what learning environment will work best for you.

The common learning environments for college level studies are the following: community colleges, universities, and online or distance learning opportunities. Community colleges tend to offer smaller classrooms with more discussion-oriented styles of learning and discourse. Universities tend to be more lecture oriented while distance and online learning opportunities are quite often self-directed learning opportunities that require a great deal of discipline in order to be successful.

When trying to identify the college that will work best for you, you should keep in mind your personal learning style. Beyond that you should also consider the type of environment you expect from your college education and the amount of time you wish to devote to the pursuit of your education and degree. Some people find that university life is far too distracting while others find that the solitude of online and distance learning is a distraction in and of itself.

You will find all kinds of cultural opportunities at a university that you will not find through home studies or on the community college level. For some students, these opportunities are icing on the cake and an important part of the learning experience as you delve into other cultures, art, music, and history. Others find these opportunities to be far too plentiful and far too distracting for their study needs. Whichever student you tend to be will make a huge difference in the best situation for your learning needs.

Another important consideration is housing. Most universities have ample on campus housing for their students while a few campuses experience on campus housing shortages and rely on housing that is located in and around the college area in order to fill in the gaps. Some universities will even offer limiting housing opportunities to students who have spouses and children. While housing on community college is seen, particularly in rural areas where there is limited housing available in and around the schools, these are more often the exception rather than the rule. Most community colleges are largely commuter campuses with very limited if any housing opportunities. Online and distance learning programs offer no housing to students.

Another concern that most also be considered carefully is the distance between classes and any special needs you may have. Universities tend to be large and spread out. It is quite possible to need to get from one end of campus to another (a mile or more in some cases) with a 10-minute window in which to get it done. For students with special needs or physical disabilities this can be quite problematic, especially on days of inclimate weather. Community colleges tend to have smaller campuses, which mean less real estate to cover in between classes. Online and distance learning classes go with you wherever you have access to a computer. This means that they are as portable as you need them to be if you have your own laptop and wireless Internet access.

You must consider all these things and so much more when narrowing down your college choices. Do you really want to take the personal responsibility required in order to succeed in online and distant learning courses? Do you want to be limited by the meager offerings of coursework available at the community college level? Is it worth it to you to pay the high price involved in a university education? These are all questions that you need to consider carefully before making the decision as to which college environment is the most desirable for you.

Many people find that in the courses of their careers they wish they had the ability to go back to school for even further education. Unfortunately, not everyone has the good fortune to live in the vicinity of a university that offers graduate level studies in the career they have chosen. Chances are that a good percentage of the population does not and if they do chances are even better that they have very busy personal and professional lives that make intensive graduate studies difficult to pursue at best.

If you are one of the many people that feel you have made your choice and are stuck with your undergraduate degree or that a post graduate degree is simply out of your reach, I hope you will read this article with great interest and learn that there options available to you no matter how far away from a university you live or how little time you have to devote to your graduate studies.

A graduate education is a very intensive course of study that is very narrow and specific. In other words, many students find that their graduate coursework is their favorite by far as it gets into the meat of the subject matter of their interest rather than merely hitting the highlights. Only a small percentage of the population at this point in time has a graduate education. Though this does not necessarily guarantee you any employability it can provide you with very specialized knowledge or skills that will help you perform your job better and qualify you for more interesting and specialized positions in your field of study.

If you would like to pursue a graduate education but feel you are too far from the nearest university that offers a comprehensive graduate education in your field, you might be surprised to find that the nearest graduate level curriculum is as far away as your living room or your favorite Internet café. Online courses give new hope to potential graduate students. Many of them will actually allow you to work around your work schedule and at your own pace while trying to achieve your dreams of higher education and life long learning.

Online courses are becoming more widely accepted across the nation and around the world. We live in the information age and it only makes sense that we are taking control of our educations by using services and demanding services like online courses in order to further our educational goals. At the moment there are only limited offerings for graduate studies, most of them centering on educational fields with only a few graduate degrees offered in other fields such as the medical industry. As demand grows so will the availability of graduate courses and degrees that are being offered online.

If you happen to be fortunate enough to live relatively close to a university that offers graduate studies in your field you might want to check with the university and see if they offer weekend graduate classes. This is a new trend that seems to be growing in popularity as a valid option for those who hope to return to college but can’t afford to give up precious work or family time during the week. These courses are much more intense than your average once or twice a week night course but they allow you to pursue your graduate degree in a much quicker manner than traditional programs have allowed and are much more employer and family friendly. Of course you also have the option of taking one or two classes at a time at night in order to achieve your graduate degree as well. Masters degree students only need to take 9 hours a semester in order to be considered full time students and qualify for financial aid.

All in all, you do not need to sacrifice your goals of graduate studies in order to maintain your career or achieve some sort of balance between work, education, and family. Whether you choose online courses, night courses, or weekend courses for your studies you have many opportunities to achieve the degree you desire without sacrificing heavily in order to do so.

A university education is one of the best possible ways to insure your earning power upon graduation. There are all kinds of fields and all kinds of majors, some paying higher than others but as a rule, college graduates will earn more money over the course of their lifetimes than those who do not have a college education or degree.

We live in a world that increasingly demands more of its citizens. We need to have the ability to hold academic conversations on the corporate level that go well beyond the score in last nights basketball games. Companies’ want well-rounded employees that epitomize all the great things that a four-year degree has to offer. For this reason, even those who have labored in order to gain an associate’s degree are getting left behind in favor of those who have a more ‘complete’ education.

If you have already entered the work force there is still the time to increase your earning potential by seeking higher education. Colleges and universities today are offering more options for students wishing to return to college than ever before. In fact we are seeing an increasing number of college students that are classified as non-traditional students. We are seeing many more adults returning for the education they didn’t receive the first time around, which is good news. It also means that more and more options are becoming available at night and on the weekends for those adults.

Even better is the fact that more and more often we are seeing courses being offered online for those who are seeking to complete their education. This allows even more options for those students who are desperately trying to balance careers, family, and education. As more and more opportunities such as these arise we will also see a growing number of graduate studies opportunities being offered in a similar fashion.

If you are thinking of returning to school after years of absence or perhaps attending for the very first time while managing an existing career there is no time like the present in order to do so. Not only will a college education give you greater earning potential in your lifetime it can also qualify you for promotions within the company for which you currently are employed.

The truth of the matter is that you really can’t go wrong when it comes to going back to college and getting or finishing your degree. You can increase your earning potential, your promotion potential, and most importantly your self-image. There is something about having a degree that makes you feel better about yourself and your ability to provide for your family. Even if you never actually use your degree for anything other than a plaque on the wall, you will have the knowledge that you accomplished something that only a small percentage of the population ever gets around to completing.

If nothing else, your college education is worth every penny you will pay in order to have it for the wonderful sense of accomplishment that goes along with getting it. Your college degree won’t make you a better person; just give you a better opinion of yourself as a person in many instances. If you need a confidence booster in your professional and your personal life, getting your college degree is often just the bump of confidence you need in order to accomplish many great things.

As the information age rolls on we are finding more and more universities that are willing to invest in the education of students who may not necessarily be in a position to attend classes at that particular university. The offerings are still somewhat limited but there are opportunities to earn associates, bachelors, and even master’s degrees strictly though online course work. This is something that was virtually unheard of even a few years ago.

Today’s students truly do have more options available to them than ever before if they are willing to invest the time and effort into their studies, there are few limits to the level of education you can receive, even if it has been years since you last attended a university or community college. Even those colleges and universities that do not offer full fledged degree programs exclusively through online learning mediums are beginning to offer many courses online for students with busy schedules and lifestyles. This means that you now have the opportunity to combine distance or online learning with a few night or weekend courses in order to complete your degree even if you have a full time day job and family that needs to see you at home on occasion.

Even if a degree is not something you are necessarily seeking you might be amazed at the wide array of courses that are available for those interested in increasing their depth of knowledge on different issues from the comfort of their own homes. I know that the idea of self-directed online learning opportunities appeal to me on many levels. These opportunities however, are not necessarily a good idea for everyone. We all learn in different manners and some of us learn best by actually being in the classroom and hearing what has to be said or from hands on experience. This type of learning is not necessarily possible when it comes to distance learning in an email or bulletin board type of environment, which is how many Internet classrooms operate.

Online learning is also not a good idea for those who aren’t perfectly willing, able, and capable of holding themselves responsible for their learning. Face it, for some of us it is much easier to get up and go to a classroom than it is to force ourselves to log on and pay attention at home. We all have areas in which our discipline is well in hand and others where we seem to have no discipline whatsoever. If you can’t hold yourself on task or have difficulties not being distracted by the many other novel things there are to do online you might be best served through an actual classroom experience rather than a distance learning environment like those of online classes.

This is not meant to discourage you from distance learning or online classrooms. In fact, I think these are by far the best option for many working professionals who are seeking to advance their careers, knowledge, and/or earning potential. You will not need to feel as though you are choosing between the future needs of yourself and your family and the limited time you have with your family already. You can schedule around your family time and make the sacrifice when it comes to sleep.

With online classes it doesn’t matter if you are in your pajamas or in a suit and tie you can still do the work you need to do online and no one will be the wiser. You also might find that you can squeeze your education into your lunch hour, particularly if you can type and chew at the same time. The truth is that online classes offer superior flexibility to those hoping to further their education. Whether you are hoping to earn a degree or simply wish to broaden your horizons by taking a few online classes, you just might find that the possibilities are limitless once you begin taking these courses from home.

We live in the information age. We have grown so accustomed to information at the speed of light that the prospect of not having immediate access to countless numbers of facts and figures with the mere click of a few buttons for many of us is simply disconcerting. For this reason, it only makes sense that there are many people across the nation and around the world that are embracing the idea of online learning and educational opportunities with every ounce of enthusiasm they can muster.

At the same time there are equal numbers of people around the world who are trying desperately to hold on to traditional methods of dealing with certain things. In fact, some people actually still play solitaire with a deck of playing cards. For people who feel that the information age has left them behind to some degree the chances are quite good that online learning may not be the best available option for you.

Below you will find a few questions that can help you narrow down whether or not you would truly benefit by taking some of the many online courses that are being offered in today’s information age of learning.

1) Are you disciplined? This may seem like such an innocuous question because we would all like to think that we are disciplined to some degree. The problem is that when you are in the driver’s seat for your own education you need to have a little more than some small degree of discipline. You need to be able to meet deadlines, take the tests, and hold yourself responsible for actually learning the information that you need to learn in order to pass the course. There is no one to blame but yourself if you do not manage to do well in your online classes and some people simply do not like being in the drivers seat when it comes to motivating and pacing themselves and their learning practices.
2) How do you learn best? We all have different methods of learning for which we retain information better than others. Online courses are reading intensive. If you have difficulties retaining the information you read you may need to find an alternate learning method or seek solutions with the assistance of the course instructor before moving forward in an online learning environment.
3) Do you have a true desire to succeed? The answer to this question is quite important in determining whether or not online learning is in your best interest. There are many paths you can take in order to achieve the education and degree you desire. This is not the path of the masses, at least not yet. This type of learning, more than any other is easy to give up on through apathy. If you aren’t determined to do the assignments, to study the notes, and to really learn the material that is presented to you then you really do not need to waste your time or the instructor’s time by continually making up excuses. Online courses are largely self-paced but you do have a limited amount of time in which to learn the material before you need to move on. The teacher is responsible for providing you the information and material but you are responsible for everything that happens from that moment on. Are you ready for that responsibility?

Whether you are a first time college student or a professional that is returning to school after a long absence online learning can open new doors of opportunity for your learning pleasure. You must be willing to walk through those doors and take the information that is presented to you however in order to be successful. My sincere hope is that everyone reading this will carefully consider whether or not the lack of structure that many online courses provides is going to be conducive to your specific learning and educational needs before taking the plunge.

If you are getting ready to attend college I’m sure you are wondering how on earth you are going to pay for it. Even graduating high school students are more and more often finding that they need to contribute in some manner to their college educations. Whether you will be taking out student loans, applying for scholarships or grants, or praying for some sort of work study program to come along there are a few things you need to know about financial aid at the college level.

First of all, financial aid can be a tricky beast. For this reason it is best to apply early and keep records of everything you send to the financial aid office. The information age has made things easier on one level and yet has eliminated the personal factor on other levels. However, if you own a personal computer you will find that Internet is an excellent source for financial aid and scholarship information. While the government offers a wide array of financial aid resources, there are many opportunities for you to get an education that do not revolve around government funding. You simply need to spend the time finding them.

Your local community is an excellent resource and a good place to start when it comes to financial opportunities for those preparing to attend college. Civic organizations and local businesses like to give out scholarships to promising students. Many of these have very specific requirements and you should pay close attention that you meet the qualifications before applying. There is no sense in wasting your time and that of the scholarship committee by applying for scholarships for which you do not qualify. Scholarships are preferable to student loans, as they do not need to be repaid. This is one of the most important things you need to understand when seeking financial aid for college. Loans are killers to your income for the first several years after graduation. The fewer loans you can manage to take out for your education the better. They are however there for those who couldn’t possibly afford an education without them.

If you don’t find the scholarships you are hoping to at the local level, you should check with the county in which you live, your state, and the school you plan to attend. There are excellent resources for each of these when it comes to financial aid. Within the college you will be attending you should consult your department head (for your chosen major) in order to see if there are any scholarships available. You will be surprised at the number of scholarships for which you may qualify. Apply for all that you meet the requirements in order to apply. Competition for these scholarships is often fierce but you never know when your letter of application might spark the interest of one of the panel members or you simply might be the most impressive candidate.

When applying for scholarships remember to read all the instructions carefully, make sure you have all the necessary documentation, and that you have checked and rechecked everything for accuracy and clarity. It takes time to make corrections and they can often be the difference in your being awarded a scholarship and the honor going to another student. Scholarships are by far the best route to go when it comes to applying for financial aid but you should be careful that you aren’t placing all your eggs in one basket. Try for multiple scholarships, work-study programs, grants, and if necessary loans in order to achieve your educational goals.

On the other hand, most college students, particularly those entering college for the first time have inflated opinions of their starting salaries upon graduation and the bills they will face while living in the real world. In fact, most freshmen college students have no real concept of the limits of money in which to base their decisions as to whether or not they can realistically expect to repay those funds once they’ve graduated college.

The sad truth is that many college graduates find that for the first 10-15 years after they have graduated college, they are essentially indentured servants to their student loan debts. There are many reasons for this and different college graduates will find different things about their student loans when the appropriate time comes. First of all, those taking out student loans need to understand that a college degree does not guarantee a high starting salary. Beyond that, a college degree is no guarantee that there will be employers lining up to take your name and number upon graduation. The truth is that most college grads take anywhere from 6 months to a year to find a job in their fields and even then the starting salaries are often far less than anticipated.

Part of the blame for over-inflated expectations is the fault of universities attempting to validate their high tuition rates by displaying average starting salaries of only those that have successful offers in the field of study immediately upon graduation (which usually indicates a history of working with the company or another company as an intern prior to being hired) and not those students who have no prior work experience in their chosen fields. Part of the expectations is students reading job advertisements for experienced workers in a field and assuming that an education will provide the experience that employers require. Regardless of the reason, most starting salary expectations are not realistic in light of the current market.

The problem is that for many students a student loan is the difference in receiving a college education or not receiving one. For these students, there is no option. The price they will pay (with interest) for having student loans in order to get through the educational process will repay itself over the course of a lifetime if they are wise about making the necessary payments and stay on top of things such as consolidation loans and making payments on time.

Student loans are a great tool for those who have no other options when it comes to attending and affording to attend a university. On the other hand, for those who do not have an absolute need for the funds a student loan can provide they can prove to be problematic when trying to establish your career and your lifestyle upon graduation. This is a tool for education that should be used sparingly at best.

Whether or not you choose to take out student loans in order to fund your college education it is a good idea if you exhaust all other available resources first. Check out your options for grants, scholarships, and work-study programs before leaping into student loans to pay for your education.

When it comes down to the importance of an education there is no denying that the longer you stay in school the better off you are when it comes to earning potential over the course of your lifetime. Recent estimates have presented some rather astonishing figures to support these claims however, and I for one think they are well worth mentioning.

Let’s discuss first things first however. A high school diploma will net the average citizen $200,000 additional dollars of lifetime income on average. This is one small baby step when it comes to the educational process however. Some college, even without a degree will even increase that figure an additional $150,000 for a total of $350,000. If this isn’t enough to convince you however try the facts and figures that are associated with the additional earning potential that a four-year degree introduces: $500,000. This addition makes a total of $850,000 more over the course of a lifetime in earning potential. I don’t know about you but I find those figures to be quite a nice motivator for going back and finishing a degree.

While a person’s education may not be an accurate indicator of his or her actual ability it is often used in the business world to narrow down a growing field of applicants for a sadly stagnate number of positions across the country. There are things you just can’t see on a piece of paper and ability and capabilities are among those things. Businesses need a defining factor by which they narrow down the field of potential employees and that defining characteristic is often a college degree in the field of business or a complimentary major course of study.

While this may not seem fair to many who have the practical skills companies are seeking employees that can fill multiple roles in order to eliminate positions that have been occupied in the past. For this reason they want business people who have technical skills and a college education provides a brief introduction to many skills that are useful in these situations. Unfortunately, the only way to know whether or not you have these specific skills is if you list them on your resume while those who have a four-year degree are believed to have them by the merit of their educations.

The earning potential alone should be enough to turn your head when it comes to the importance of earning a college degree though there are many more excellent reasons to pursue the completion of your degree. If you haven’t considered some of the other wonderful reasons for returning to college and getting your degree, perhaps the reasons below will provide a little additional motivation.

1) Challenge. There is very little in life that offers the challenge of returning to college after an absence. It is a frightening prospect for many and yet can be equally as exciting. You will find that the constant exposure to academic debate is a great way to feed your mind and open your eyes to new ideas. Challenge your preconceptions and challenge the limits of your own experiences by opening up your mind to the thoughts and ideas of others.
2) Learn New Skills. There is never a bad time to begin learning new skills no matter what they say about old dogs and new tricks. The truth is that as long as you open your mind to learning you are feeding it and that is a great thing.
3) Career advancement. Whether you realize it or not, a college degree is one of the quickest paths you can take to career advancement.

If the money wasn’t enough to convince you of the impact that a four-year degree can make in your life perhaps the reasons mentioned above were enough to do the trick. Whether or not you realize how much a degree can affect your life the truth of the matter is that it can improve so many things about your life and how you view yourself and the world around you. Now is the perfect time to go back to school and earn your degree.

While there are all kinds of benefits that are associated with learning and furthering your educational goals there are even more benefits to those who wish to pursue online learning in order to achieve those goals. I hope you will find that many of these benefits are quite enlightening and carefully consider whether or not online learning for your secondary education needs will be in your best interests.

1) Convenience. This is a word we are quite familiar with. Right along with instant gratification. We are a society of people who have lived with drive thru banking and fast food and are rapidly moving in the direction of drive thru pharmacies and dry cleaning. We live in a fast paced world and when we can work education into our busy schedules and on our own terms we find that this is something we tend to like a lot. I recommend that you watch for a growing number of online classes and online students in the coming years as more and more professionals decide to further their degrees and their careers.

2) Flexibility. You can take these classes or do the work during your lunch break, while the kids are practicing soccer, or while cooking dinner (depending of course on how well you multitask). You do not need to be in the classroom every night at 6:00 pm for the next five years in order to get the same degree of education. This by no means indicates that you will not have to do the work. The work will not change nor will the fact that you have a limited time in which to complete the work. What will change is that you will have the option of doing the work in the morning, afternoon, or after those 2 a.m. feedings when you can’t seem to get back to sleep.

3) Location. There isn’t enough that can really be said about this. Online education comes to you wherever you happen to be able to connect to the Internet. Whether you are at home, at work, or your favorite Internet café you can have the convenience of taking your work with you and enjoying the environment in which you are completing your work.

4) Less Expensive. No more convenience meals, childcare expenses, or gas guzzling trips to a college campus that thirty minutes away. You can now enjoy in your own home the benefits of an education without many of the financial hardships that are often associated with attending college. Internet access seems like such a small price to pay when compared with all the reasons mentioned above.

5) Believe it or not, online courses help you brush up your online abilities. Seriously. You will be better at dealing with email, bulletin boards, online research, and you will learn countless other skills along the way that you probably never realized had anything to do with the courses you are actually taking-because they don’t. In other words, you are getting more of an education than you bargained for when it comes to online learning.

6) Individual attention. Online students often have more one on one interaction with their professors than students in a classroom. The online classroom is virtual and correspondence through email is essential in this particular learning environment. For this reason it is quite possible that your professors will know more about you and your learning patterns and needs than they will know about most of the students they see two or three times a week in their classrooms.

While these are just a few of the benefits of taking online classes you should carefully weigh the benefits with the things that may be problematic about this particular type of learning situation before you take the plunge. Learning is a lifelong process but if you are seeking a degree you do not want to jeopardize that by taking a course that will not address your specific learning needs. If you feel confident that you can be successful in this particular type of learning environment than I feel you will truly enjoy the experience and the flexibility it brings to the educational process.

Higher education in this country is rapidly becoming a necessity in the business community rather than a luxury. There was a time when those who had a high school education still had the opportunity to build a better world for themselves and their families. Those days are rapidly becoming another dieing ember of the past. If you hope to have significant earning potential during your lifetime you are almost completely limited by your learning potential and the level of education you have received.

The good news is that you do not have to have an all or nothing approach when it comes to education. You can begin by taking baby steps when it comes to higher education. If you have a community college in your area, this is one of the greatest resources for beginning your college education at any stage in your life. Most community colleges offer classes at various times during the day and evening, even some on Saturday in order to accommodate students of different ages and backgrounds.

Community colleges also offer an excellent opportunity to begin your learning quest in a manner that is much more easily affordable to the average citizen than a full-blown university. These colleges are largely commuter colleges though there are several that allow students the experience of living on a college campus at a much lower price than most major universities charge for the same or very similar privileges.

Community colleges also allow you to explore your options if you aren’t really sure what direction you wish for your education to take without paying such a high price for the process. If you know the career path you wish to take you might find a two-year degree program that can have you out of school and in a career much sooner than a four-year program will allow. If that isn’t good enough news for you, many of the two-year programs of study that are offered at the community college level may very well transfer quite easily into bachelor degree programs at the university level.

Community colleges offer an excellent start for many people who are seeking higher education whether to further their careers or just to find fulfillment on a personal level in life. There are many wonderful programs in vocational fields as well as academic fields that can be explored and studies on the community college level.

For graduating high school students community colleges help students ease into the adjustment from high school to college without going through the culture shock that some universities can put students through. You will find that there are often many opportunities to meet educational as well as social needs on the community college level for students that are interested in pursuing a community college education.

You should also discover that community colleges are much easier to budget when it comes to setting aside funds and savings for either your personal college education or the educational expenses of your children. Having them attend a community college for two years then transferring to a University can save a great deal of money and provide you a little piece of mind that your children are still receiving an excellent level of education.

Seriously, if you are looking for an excellent value when it comes to education you would be doing yourself or your children a disservice if you do not check out the community college options in your area before taking the plunge and diving into the university lifestyle. You will find that community colleges often offer an equal level of education for the introductory classes that first and second year college students often take, they are a much better value for the money, and they are an outstanding values for those who are trying to juggle their education with family and work responsibilities.

We have discussed some of the wonderful advantages that university life and educations present. However, we must in turn discuss some of the other disadvantages that are associated with university learning as well. While we discuss these you should keep in mind that they do not by any means indicate that you should give up on your higher education goals, only that you should view your educational process with realistic expectations.

When compared with the community college system the very first and most distinctive disadvantage that comes to mind is the high cost of upper education on the university level. Community colleges are simply more cost effective all around than universities. The costs go well beyond that money that would be spent on room and board making the tuition alone cost prohibitive in many cases. While there are many types of financial aid available to students the vast majority of college students in this country make ends meet through the use of student loans, which must be repaid at quite a hefty interest rate, in order to cover the costs associated with university educations.

Beyond the one obvious disadvantage there are a few other disadvantages that bear mentioning in this particular circumstance. First of all, universities do not have the small intimate classroom settings that literally set community colleges apart. In fact, for lower level course, most universities offer large auditorium classes that are taught by graduate students rather than professors and more often than not the students never get to know those who are charged with their education on more than a nod and smile while passing in the halls basis. This method for learning is considered by many to be exceptionally inferior and the statistics prove that students who go straight into a four-year college environment rather than going through a community college first are far less likely to complete their degrees.

If that isn’t enough of a disadvantage, many people find that the impersonal atmosphere of most universities is quite limiting when it comes to interaction with other students. The smaller classroom environments of community colleges invite interaction between the students in the class. An open line of communication within the classroom is greatly preferred to having so many students that no one gets a voice or the ability to voice their opinions or personal experiences when it comes to certain topics.

Another disadvantage to university life is the sheer size of university campuses. Community colleges tend to be much more compact. This means that students have a fairly decent chance of making it to all classes on time and without the worry of walking 2 miles in ten minutes. While this is great for physical fitness, missing the first ten minutes of class each week can limit the educational process that your university experience should be providing. It seems like such a small thing on one hand but when you are hauling around a day’s worth of textbooks and a laptop–that hike can be the thing that marines seem dubious about accomplishing.

While there are a few distinctive disadvantages to university life, the fact remains that graduation from a university is the single biggest way to increase your earning potential over the course of your lifetime. The amounts are by no means insignificant. I highly recommend whenever possibly that you attend community college for the first two years of your college education. Beyond that, I strongly urge you to consider the value that completing your education and getting a four-year degree can provide.

If you wish to build self-confidence, earning potential, and job security, there is no way of doing so that is superior to getting a four-year degree. It doesn’t matter where you are in life or your career; it is never too late to begin getting your education. There are so many things in the world that a good education will open your eyes to in addition to the doors of opportunity a four-year degree will open.

The world in which we live is constantly evolving. We are demanding more and more from our citizens than ever before and in order to live up to the demands of the world we need a solid education upon which to base our skills and knowledge. There are many alternatives available for receiving an education these days, which is good news for those who have not yet managed to obtain a four-year college degree. Truthfully, that degree is the difference in literally hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of a lifetime than not having a degree.

Four Reasons for a Four-Year Education

Money. The first reason that you should consider a university degree is the fact that it will substantially increase your earning potential. If nothing else appeals to you, this is typically the one reason that most people return to school after years in the work place. If you are in high school and haven’t really had to deal with the bills and burdens that many adults face it’s difficult to explain how important any edge when it comes to earning ability truly is. However, you should be aware that you need to choose your major wisely if money is your sole motivation. Not all careers pay equally when compare to the education required to enter them.

Insurance. This may seem like a strange term to use when discussing why you should get a university education but this is perhaps the best insurance you can find as far as employability goes. Having a university degree gives you a competitive edge over those who do not. In many cases you will find that education is beginning to trump experience as employers are seeking workers with more rounded skills rather than those with very specific skills. The modern university typically requires a brief exposure to all kinds of information and coursework that isn’t necessarily related to your major. This provides graduates with a broader understanding of the world (at least that is the assumption).

Employability. Believe it or not, those with degrees are much more employable than those that do not have them. There was a time when the trend was to employ those who had experience over those who had education. That trend is rapidly evaporating as companies want employees that can fill multiple roles more and more often. The limited exposure to certain ideas or ideals and principles that most people receive as part of their university education makes you a more employable candidate because you should be able to adapt and adjust, as this was required during your educational process.

Confidence. There is nothing quite like believing in yourself. Getting a four-year education is one way to build confidence not only on a personal level but also on a professional level. Whether or not you realize it, this is often the best reason for pursuing a university degree. This reason, as a matter of fact, will actually affect all of the other things I mentioned above. If you have more confidence in your ability you will be more willing to go out there and get the job done. As a result, you will earn more money and you will insure that you are an asset to your company by proving yourself to be just that.

Regardless of your personal reason for pursuing a university degree there are very few wrong reasons to get your degree. Good luck in your educational pursuits. I know they will serve you well.
